THE MOLINÀ® “MONK AND NUN” PATENT”
In the year 1979, the first patent was born Ton Gruppethe so-called “Friar and Nun” patent, with which in the meantime millions and millions of roof tiles have been laid on roofs in Italy and around the world (more than 300,000,000 pieces), without being Neverslipped one.
WHERE DOES THE NAME “MONK AND NUN” COME FROM?
In the German language, roof tiles are called “.“Friar and Nun”, because the underlying roof tile has a hake, like a tile, with which it is hooked to the wooden batten. The upper roof tile, on the other hand, has a forum, into which the patented steel hook Molinà®, fixing it to the friar's cap and so prevents any slippage of the torque and the entire cover, even on extreme slopes.
THE PRODUCTION SYSTEM
Today, Molinà® roof tiles are produced using two systems: manual and artisanal. The manual, as the word itself says, is made entirely by hand. The handmade, on the other hand, is extruded with modern machinery, but the clay, firing and quality are identical.
THE OLIVE POMACE COOKING SYSTEM
Its uniqueness in the world, apart from its manual and artisanal production, comes from baking in an ancient “Hoffmann” oven. Energy is not derived from oil, but from olive pomace, the waste product of local olive oil production.
The combination of kiln type, natural zero-kilometre energy source and a truly unique clay, the quality of which has been appreciated and used since antiquity, give these tiles a natural quality, colour and flamboyance that cannot be achieved by firing in modern kilns.
Molinà® beavertail is certified according to the German standard DIN EN 1305:2008-07 by not only passing 150 freeze-thaw cycles in the laboratory, but Molinà® wanted to go further and after 500 cycles all the tiles were intact.
TECHNICAL DETAILS
Molinà® produces its roof tiles in two sizes: the Molinà® classic, of which 28 pieces at mq (14 friars and 14 nuns), mirror the measurements of the ancient roof tiles of central and northern Italy.
Cups Molina® MAXI instead, are produced larger, to the extent of a few regions in central and southern Italy and only serve 22 pieces at mq (11 brothers and 11 sisters).
For both types of roofing Molinà® adopted a slightly different length than usual, but used in antiquity in different regions.
They are 47 cm long (handmade) or 50 cm long (handcrafted), because a larger overlap improves the permeability of a roof.
